How to enable and use Lesson Summaries on Lessonspace

Lesson summaries give you an overview of each session, including suggested next steps for upcoming lessons. This guide explains how to enable and manage summaries at both the organisation and Space level, and how to view them after a lesson.

Enable lesson summaries on your Lessonspace dashboard

To enable lesson summaries generated after sessions:

1. Go to the Settings > Recordings page in your Lessonspace dashboard.
2. Toggle Summarise Sessions by Default on.

This will make all future lessons summarised by default. You can override this on a per-Space basis.

Enable summaries on a specific Space

When creating a Space:

1. Go to Edit settings.

   

2. Toggle the option to enable summaries.

   

3. You can override your organisation’s default setting here.

View summaries

1. Open the Sessions page.

   Find the session you’d like to view.

   Select Show details.

   Under the Summary section, you’ll see:

   • A session overview (about 300 words).
   • Suggested next steps.

Why do I not have a summary?

Your settings may not be correct, or the session may have been too short or lacked educational content. To generate a summary, a session must last at least five minutes and include two distinct users.

Are summaries free?

Yes, summaries are included in all standard plans and are free. (Note: custom plans may differ.) Remember that audio and video recordings must be enabled.

What if my summary is inaccurate?

If your summary doesn’t reflect the lesson, or if you notice any issues, please contact us at support@thelessonspace.com.

I don’t want recordings saved, but I want summaries. What can I do?

You can set up a 24-hour deletion time for recordings. This keeps them long enough to generate a summary, but deletes them afterwards.

I forgot to enable summaries before my session. Can I generate one after the session is over?

No, summaries must be enabled before the session starts. You can, however, turn on the organisation-wide setting to automatically summarise all future sessions (as long as recordings are enabled).

Who can see lesson summaries?

Lesson summaries are visible to teacher participants of the session, admins, but not students.

Are lesson summaries privacy compliant?

Is lesson data used to train AI models?

No. Lessonspace does not allow OpenAI to use your data for training AI models.

Can I edit a summary?

No, summaries cannot be edited directly. However, you can copy the text, make changes, and share your own version.

Can I remove a summary?

Yes. Organisation admins can remove a summary from the Sessions page under the Summaries section.

How long until a summary is available?

Your summary will be available within about an hour after the session ends.
