Workarounds for screen sharing on iOS

Apple does not allow browser-based apps, like Lessonspace, to enable screen sharing on iOS devices. As a result, this feature is unavailable for iPads and iPhones. However, here are some workarounds to ensure a smooth and interactive lesson using other available features:

Upload files to the whiteboard:

You can upload files directly to the whiteboard. Click the Upload option in the toolbar and choose files from your photos or files.

Why is it better than screen sharing?

Both you and your student can annotate the shared file. You can upload multiple files, and they’ll be saved for your next session.

Share files in the chat:

Share files individually or with all students via the chat. Click on Chat, then select Attach Files.

Why is it better than screen sharing?

Students will have local access to the files to reference, save, or print. This also works for links like worksheets or games.

Use the Cobrowser:

Open a Cobrowser window within Lessonspace that both you and your students can interact with (clickable). Great for games or websites requiring logins (no login info is saved).

Why is it better than screen sharing?

Promotes student interaction and engagement instead of passive viewing, making lessons more interactive.

Upload screenshots to the whiteboard:

Capture a screenshot on your device and upload it to the whiteboard as described earlier.

Why is it better than screen sharing?

You can share specific content quickly and retain the ability to annotate directly on the whiteboard.

Ask students to screen share:

If possible, ask students to share their screen. This gives them an opportunity to practice screen sharing.

Use a secondary device:

Connect to Lessonspace from both your iOS device and another device, using the secondary device for screen sharing.

Note that this limitation exists because Apple restricts screen capture to native apps. Since Lessonspace is browser-based, we cannot implement this feature at this time, but we are exploring solutions.
