Waiting room

The Waiting Room feature allows Leaders to manually admit students and guests into their Spaces, ensuring a more organized and secure learning environment. Let's explore how this feature enhances your teaching and collaboration in Lessonspace.

By default, the Waiting Room feature is disabled. You (as an admin) can enable it by going to Settings > Spaces and finding Waiting Room under Space Access Control.

First, toggle off “Use Lessonspace Default”, then toggle on “Enable Waiting Room”.

Once enabled, students and unregistered guests will be greeted with a prompt to request access before they can join a Space.

When the student clicks on “Request to Join” a notification will be sent to the leader and the student will see a pending request.

All leaders in the Space will receive a notification that a student has requested to join and a notification bubble with the number of users in the waiting room will appear over the people menu until the request has been responded to.

Opening the people menu, leaders will see any pending requests from the waiting room at the top of the list. Leaders can then choose to admit or deny each request.

Once admitted, students will automatically advance to the lobby.

If there are many requests, leaders can also choose to admit all using the dropdown menu on the Waiting Room header.

If a leader chooses to deny a request, they will need to first confirm that they want to deny access. In the case of an unwanted guest, leaders may also choose to ban the user so they may not request access repeatedly.

If a request to join is denied, students will see this message:

They may refresh and try again unless they are banned, in which case no further requests will be sent.
